    430EX III-RT

I have no idea how to add links, but it appears Canon have announced an update to the 430EX Speedlite, the 430EX III-RT. As the name implies, it adds remote Radio triggering to the Optical remote facility on the 430EX and 430EX II, but what is more interesting is that it can act as a Master as well as a slave, in effect becoming a "baby" 600EX-RT. According to the report it should be available from next month.

    Here it is:-

Strangely enough Canon state can be used as a master or slave yet reviews are saying it can only be used as a slave flash !!!

It states that it can be used as a master/slave in the radio mode, but only as a slave in the optical mode. The Canon UK site isn't very clear, so no wonder there is some confusion as to what is in the spec!

Looks interesting does this mean i can use the new 430mkIII in conjunction with my 430mkII?

Most reports of the new flash I've seen say the optical wireless facility is as a slave only, so in that way it's the same as the mkII, and you'd still need a "master" unit to trigger it. My 70D has that built in, but I know the 5D series don't.

That's interesting, if the 430 111 really is radio triggered.

I have a pair of 430 EX's, and radio trigger these with Yongnuo Radio Triggers.

What I find remarkable is, if it really will act as a radio remote master for the proposed cost of about £250, you would get a unit with the capability of an ST-E3-RT with the added bonus of the features of a 430EX II, and for about the same price! To me, unless Canon don't drop the price of the ST-E3-RT significantly they aren't going to sell any!

                Re: 430EX III-RT

It looks like a good upgrade, I'm tempted to swap my older version for a new one.
But I think three 600rt flashes is probably enough.

As an aside I have the ST-E3-RT and really like it. A much slicker option than separate triggers, although I admit it's not cheap.
If the Yongnuo version had been available I'd have used that but am very pleased with the flexibility the trigger offers.
