    Brian a three legged friend

I posted up a few days ago about getting a new tripod and wanted to offer some feedback

I've been looking around for a decent travel tripod for sometime as my Manfrotto 055 Carbon is a great tripod its long, and if your walking around for hours your only option is carrying it PIA!! using a Manfrotto strap FAIL doesn't work with a backpack or strapping it onto the backpack, another fail as it protrudes far too high above the bag and makes the bag feel uncomfortable...So I started looking at options

The 3 Legged thing was pointed out to me as an option and after watching video reviews I bough Brian ( http://www.3leggedthing.com/evo3/evo...rhed-blue.html) - one of the keypoints was the size as I wanted something that would fit onto the back of my backpack and not be aware of it, or fit inside the bag which it does both - I'm pretty sure it will live most of its live strapped to the back of the backpack as its no weight ( only downside is I have to remind myself my pack has just extended by another 5" so have to be careful in shops, or better still wait outside)

So the first issue, resolved totally portable ...

Using the tripod is a dream the legs simply one twist and they are locked in place and you can extend all five parts quickly - I bought the AirHed 3 with Pano-Clamp and glad I did its a great bit of kit and feels like quality and with all the adjustments you can place the camera in any angle and it stays NO drifting - I did a test just to see how far it would go and something I wouldn't expect to do. Putting a 100-400 and tilting the camera down on full extension it looked solid, and I probably will never use that combo again on the tripod.. The ballhead is a lot better than the Manfrotto but that was only £60 where as this was £150 so I would expect that, but it didn't disappoint..

The tip that James told me about by removing the centre column was handy as its made it a little lighter but more so a tad smaller and quicker to put up..

The service I got from 3leggedthing.com was the best I've had from any UK store - They responded to emails quickly when I wasn't sure about something and from placing the order 10am Monday morning it was with me in Spain Tuesday evening at 8 ....THAT is my idea of service

I'd say 10/10 although I've not used it onsight yet but just walking around the garden and setting it up is not hardwork...

I think you could say I'm pleased

Thanks for posting Ian. A personal recommendation is worth several dozen online "reviews".

Good review Ian, although I guess the real test will be when you get it out of the garden into the big wide world.

If you need any location tips just ask. That reflection shot was taken just outside Refugi J.M.Blanc which you can hike to direct from Espot - it's only 6.7Km from memory ... but 1000m difference in altitude. The Refugi is built on a little peninsula of a lake/reservoir and they have taken great care to create the damn walls very unobtrusively so that from a distance you just see a straight edge to the water - similar to expensive swimming pools - it makes for an amazing location which I hope I've got a few more images of.

Ah yes we had a few days there at the end of the hike but I haven't posted anything yet - haven't even got them on to the iMac. Sort of annoying having to go back to work :(

I'm sure I've watched a B&H video in which two of the directors describe their products and customer service, it was quite interesting. They majored on the fact that their products are designed for photographers by photographers. Worth a watch at the time I wasn't sure how their British humour would go down in NY.
