I have shed a tear for you, it never gets any easier and only other pet owners (sorry staff) can understand the heartache and emptiness.

Thoughts with you Les, been there a couple of times and know I'll be doing it at least another 3. Take comfort from the thought that he had you to take care of him and give him a good life, so many dogs out there that don't have anyone.

Thanks all, your words of support and expressions of sympathy are genuinely appreciated, and of comfort. I'm just about getting my mojo back after the traumatic last few days. I just wish this crap weather would improve so I can get out and about with my camera, for me the best therapy.

Sorry about your very sad loss - but sometimes in those dark moments, going out with your camera can concentrate the mind which indeed can be of help. The photograph of you dog is brilliant - and hopefully will bring back happy memories of the good times with him.

              Re: Goodbye to Jack

Only just seen this as have been away for a while, very sad to read this Les, as many others have said, I also have been through it with 4 Golden Retrievers, now have two Cocker Spaniels who give us great joy and literally go everywhere with me!
Best advice I can give is to go straight out and get another.

              Regards Paul

                Re: Goodbye to Jack

Sadly for me and my family, we said goodbye to our Border Collie, Millie yesterday. After a very short spell (7 days) of not being herself, the vet found an incurable tumour on her kidney.

Broken hearts all round (non bigger then mine). She cared for us for almost 12 years and pretty much remained a puppy throughout

                Sleep well girl

I know some people get a dog straight away but for us it took a year and it was only when the right scruffy little fellow came walking along, well he posted on FB after being dumped

Sad to hear your news Alan. As a dog lover myself, I have found it very difficult to get another dog after I had to put our dog to sleep. So I never got another one.
