St.Melangell Church in the village of Llangynog, Powys.

I paid a visit to this ancient church which dates from the 12th Century. The church is a Grade 1 listed building and is set deep in the Berwyn Mountains. The church stands in a round churchyard, ringed by ancient yew trees estimated to be 2000 years old. The impression is still that of simple Norman church, well loved and beautified over the years. The church's greatest treasure is the 12th Century shrine of St.Melangell which houses the bones of the Saint. This church has no resident congregation and has been a pilgrims church, and visitors come from all over Britain and from overseas to sit, pray and wonder at the beauty around them.

some nice shots there Nat - although a couple could do with some work.

The first is a tad tight and needs a bit of space, also the sky didn't do you any favors and I would try converting that to B&W

The second I think would have worked better had you used the path as a lead into the photo

The third I would have shot HDR as you could have pulled more detail from the inside

Thanks Ian. Trying my best to "copy" you!!Re the first, I couldn't help the tightness as I did not leave much room on either side after I had adjusted the verticles. Must look at my other pics to see whether I have room to give more space. I will look at the other two as suggested. The weather was at it's worst when I went up there last week to show a friend of mine from the Midlands something different. I should have mentioned that the place abounds with hares and pheasants. Did not see any hares but lot of Pheasants.

Copy me.....nah you have stunning churches there that you can get all in, I have to stick to inside only

I always give myself a lot of play room ( if I can ) when taking buildings as I've learned the hard way as soon as you start sorting uprights it soon vanishes and have lost a lot of nice shots because I didn't have the space either side

Nice set Nat, though I see what Ian is saying, though not an HDR fan myself.

HDR does have a bad press - its not always about the dirty over processed images some produce

Re: St.Melangell Church in the village of Llangynog, Powys.

Thanks folks. I am kicking myself for not giving myself enough room to do my processing work. I blame the inclement weather that day- had to protect my camera from the rain via my rain cover etc etc. My commonsense deserted me at that point.

P.S- Not all churches are small and easy to photograph in their entirerity. The British Cathedrals,as you know Ian,for example are very large and one has to resort to stiching several pics. Not an expert in that field at all.

What an interesting place to visit and photograph. I think I could spend hours there. Thanks for sharing Nat

I do like to shoot churches myself too Nat. The weather looked ideal for my style, straight to mono typically.

Ian has commented in line with my thoughts so little to add

Thanks Tom and Alan for taking a look. Yes, I will try mono for some of the pictures and see how they come out. The sky,as you can see was terrible and not at all co-operative and I was not prepared to change the colour of the sky,via PSE, to a nice Kent "blue"!

I would say due to the flat sky yes they look better - although whilst processing I would have pushed the contrast higher as that would have helped pull more detail from the stonework
