    Re: Do I need filters?

like you said it depends on your interests

but the main filter you should have in your bag if you shoot landscapes is a polarising filter - The others like ND filters and graduated are just effects to slow the shutter down & control exposure and whilst a lot of us have them you can get by without until you know the direction you want to go, but a polariser you will probably use at some stage - as for budget or cheap, go for the best you can afford, Hoya make a good range and not too expensive

I also put a skylight on for protection and it never comes off

          Re: Do I need filters?

I have some spring clip contraptions with barn doors that hold cc filters (6x6cm, approx.) that I use for n.d. and other filters. Especially if you are exploring filter effects you can get a lot of those gel filters for not very much money. Good luck

Personally as a mainly landscape shooter I find an ND grad to be by far my most used filter. Yes you can replicate the effect in processing but it really depends on the shot and the dynamic range of your body and with extremes at sunrise/sunset it isn't the same.

                Re: Do I need filters?

Filters are a good accessory to have and to take with you esp the polarising filter. I haven't used them much as my good friend who accompanies me is always telling me to "hurry up". I need to go away ALONE with my filters when I am taking landscape shots! Get the idea?
