Nice image, once again you've used symmetry to really highlight the detail and it works well.

I agree with Ian, it would be better without the person at the top of the shot. But I guess you waited a fair amount of time as it was!

          Like that, Stan.

Did you get a licence for the underground photography, or did you just shoot the shot as you 'passed through'?

I too would either wait for the escalator to be empty, or clone them out. All or nothing as others have said.

In the January-March 2016 issue of EOS magazine we featured images taken of Montreal's Metro system. This led us to look at the regulations regarding photography on the London Underground. This is what we published:

              ----------

In order to photograph or film on the London Underground you must have a valid permit as the network is private property. There are different types of permits available, costing from £50. The London Underground understands that there are occasions when tourists casually take photographs, which is difficult to control. It has published the following guidelines:

“We realise that on occasions our customers passing through a station may want to take an ad hoc photograph. This is acceptable at the station’s discretion providing additional camera equipment (including flash and tripods) are not used. However, images clearly promoting the London Underground brand must not be published/broadcast without the prior permission of London Underground.

“It is best for each individual photographer to determine whether a permit is required. However, given the current climate, for health, safety and security purposes we recommend people are in possession of a permit if they intend to stay at stations for a considerable amount of time.”

For further information about photographing on the London Underground, visit: www.tfl.gov.uk/filming. You will need to complete an application form to gain a permit. If you wish to publish your images on the internet (including your own website), you must submit your images to London Underground for clearance. In certain cases you may require a Licence to Publish, for which there is a charge.

missed that Robert although was reading the mag on a plane and did snooze a few times - £50 !!! thats a bit rich just to take some photos. Had the London Underground set the fee at a more realistic level like £5/£10 I'm sure more would be happy to pay if it offered more freedom and less worry about someone tapping them on the shoulder and being told to move along

that wold be the end of Dee !!

                  now sorted

Did you get a licence for the underground photography, or did you just shoot the shot as you 'passed through'?
We did not have a pass but took advice from the Photographers Guide to London, which applies equally to mainline train stations and the DLR and states that photography for personal use while you are passing through a station is fine providing you don't loiter in the same place for too long or cause an obstruction. Allowing personal photography is entirely at the discretion of the station so if asked to move on, then do so without argument. Tripods and flash are not allowed anywhere in the system so its quite easy to take a couple of shots and move on. With this shot and also the Googe Street staircase, there was no one apart from us in the vicinity so our shots were literally taken as we passed through
