Re: CF Card or SD Card?

Think the PhotoShelter site also did tests with 7D2.

The burst speeds quoted is the number of RAW files the camera/card can take in 30secs so the fig of 83 for the CF and 26 for the SD is a reflection of write speeds.

Re: CF Card or SD Card?

I have the 7DII which also has a dual slot and mainly use the SD slot with Lexar Professional SDHC class 10 cards - two main reasons apart from the acceptable write speed, firstly don't need a card reader as laptop has one built in and second with all their pins, the CF cards are more pront to damage when either inserting in the camera or reader

That's interesting. I've used CF cards since I had a 350D and none of them have suffered any damage at all. The same is true of SD cards with my other cameras and XXXD Canons. Perhaps I've just taken more care/been luckier than the norm.

Re: CF Card or SD Card?

When I had my original 400D, as I replaced the CF card in the camera one of the pins in the camera got bent and I was very lucky that I was able to straighten it with a small screwdriver otherwise could have been very expensive. Should have been clearer, it's not the card itself which prone to damage it is the camera

Agree CF cards can damage the readers, I'm on my second one due the other having pins bent, mind you I think it was a cheap reader and the new one locates a lot better so hopefully will be fine

Re: CF Card or SD Card?

You usually only bend the pins on a cf card if you insert it the wrong way round

nope, never did that, but the new reader is much better

Re: CF Card or SD Card?

Would an old reader cause slow data transfer? Only ask as transferring data to my laptop takes forever using a CF card and reader compared to an SD card (the CF card is rated faster than the SD)

Strange thing these cards, my SD card is faster than my CF even though you would think it should be the otherway round?

I get 26 shots before my Sandisk 95MB/s runs out of puff but only get 22 out of my Lexar pro 800x though this one does clear the buffer a fraction quicker. But as i only shoot about 6/7 frames at a time when the action gets going it's never going to be a problem.

Re: CF Card or SD Card?

I use both as a backup, and set to put all images on both cards.
I only format/delete both one e I know the images backed up to my iMac.
Generally I am not worried about burst speeds but only buy decent cards so have never had an issue.

Should have said in my previous card the CF is only used a backup, and I only ever use the SD card to transfer to my iMac.
The CF only gets removed if I am out and about and fill up a card.
