    Red and Green and Gold

From Blashford earlier in the week. My aim was to shoot a redpoll on a decent perch and whilst waiting for an hour and a half for that to happen, shot a few other birds as well, including the greenfinch and goldfinch

All with 150-600, f7.1, ISO 1600 and in the changeable light shutter speeds between 1/320 and 1/1600

Are these taken on a full size sensor camera? Should I expect as good IQ on my 70D with its crop sensor?

7D II, which is the same size sensor as the 70D. The 70D is quite a modern camera so should be OK but of course the lens you are using has a bearing as well. For wildlife I use either the Sigma 150-600 sport, Canon 300f4 or Canon 70-200 f2.8 and 1.4x, all of which give excellent results even at higher ISO values

I have the cheaper Sigma 150-600 C, will be interesting to see how it compares. Also just got the Kenco 1.4x HD. Have to practise my technique though, probably the most important factor, never really had a decent telephoto, zoom or fixed, before.

The Contemporary and Sport versions of the Sigma have very similar IQ. As you say technique is really important.

Apologies Stan forgot to comment on the images. Redpoll and Greenfinch looks spot on, sharp and nice exposure. Now it might be just be me but thought the Goldfinch didn't have the same punch and it looks (to me) like point of focus is slightly forward of the bird, looking at the branch.

luckily I have not yet deleted the images from the card so can check the point of focus. This shot was the last of a group of 4 ,the first three, the focus is spot on the eye, with this one the bird must have moved as the focus has slipped just below
