    Wide angle lens advice..

    Hi

I am in the market for a wide angle lens to use for, amongst other things landscapes and interior shot to use with my EOS 7D.

So far I have been recommended the following lenses..

    Canon EF-S 10-18mm STM
    Canon EF-S 10-22mm
Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 EX DC HSM
Canon EF 8-15mm f4.0 L USM Fisheye Lens
Tamron 15-30mm f2.8 SP Di VC USD Lens

Out of those what would you recommend?

Unless you have a better recommendation :)

I used the tokina 11-16mm mkii f/2.8 with your camera and was very pleased with the results - throw that one into the hat as well

I've got that Tokina and it works well with my 7D. True there is some CA but that's easily dealt with in post. I must say, though, that I only now mainly use it for interiors preferring to stitch multiple images together for landscape panos.

        Cheers,

          Thank you.....

From the list above as recommended by 3 photo stores, I like the idea of the Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6 DC HSM Lens, it seems that it may give me a good wide angle lens with the "Fisheye" effect at 8mm... although I like the constant aperture of the Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 EX DC HSM ... Not sure though Lol

All three stores seemed to recommend the same lenses....

I used to have a Tamron 10-24SP which I used with a 50D....I would not recommend it though, I didn't find it to be very sharp but that might have been my technique at the time......just mentioning that in case you see that as an option.

Stuart, I have got the Canon 17-40mmL lens and the Canon 10-18mm (Ef-s) wide angle lenses (I have a full frame and a crop camera body) and both are brilliant in my view. They produce very sharp images. You might wish to keep these in your mind as well.

The Sigma 8-16 is a rectilinear lens at all zoom settings. Not a fisheye. If you need fisheye, look elsewhere. As an extreme wide angle lens for a crop sensor, though, this lens is without peers.

                        Re: Wide angle lens advice..

I have the Canon 10-22 and I love it. No experience of the rest so can't comment, specifically. The impression is that most lenses in this class seem pretty good so it's down to personal choice, size, weight and price.

I made my choice in the end by eliminating anything that had an attribute I didn't like (mainly weight) and then looking for features I did. And then I found a really good deal on the 10-22 which meant it matched the best of the rest on price and the decision was made.

                          Re: Wide angle lens advice..

I think fish eye is a lens lots of people think they would like to have but tire of quite quickly. If you still hanker for one I strongly recommend renting one first for a few days just to confirm its the one for you. It can produce striking images but they are very distinctive in style. BTW I have a 10-22 and have been very pleased with it

I would agree about the Sigma 8-16mm. If I didn't already have the Canon 10-22mm, I would certainly give it some consideration!

The fish-eye 8-15 is not so fish-eye on a EF-S camera as the camera.
Althally fully fisheye on a full frame though.
