    Sigma Teleconverter question

Currently I have a Sigma 150-500 and am seriously considering trading up to a Sigma 150-600 C. I also have a Sigma 1.4 EX DG teleconverter to go with the 150-500, would there be any great value in trading it for the 1401 version at the same time? At the moment Sigma are selling the 150-600 C and 1401 as a package, so it would be a good time to buy them together.

    Re: Sigma Teleconverter question

Yes I would as the older convertor won't work with the lens according to sigmas original statements ,however to make it work anyway you will need a f8 enabled body ,so any 1D series,5dmk3 ,7dmk2 ,or 80d ,no other cameras will work with that lens and t.c .and even then it's not certain they will either.
And according to your gear list you haven't got one anyway.

Also be aware that when first released the new sigma t.c's got a terrible slating for bad I.q

I was also considering an 80D, just waiting for the price to drop a bit. At the moment, if I use the 1.4 on the 150-500 then I focus manually, awkward, but I don't use the combination very often.

I hadn't read reviews of the 1401 slating the IQ, so perhaps I won't bother. The 150-600 and slight cropping seems a better alternative (and it's cheaper!). Thanks Jeff.

i have the 80d and my kenko HD tc won't work in conjunction with the sigma 150-600 ,i am yet to try the canon t.c .however it all worked superbly on the 1D3 giving rise to the suspicion that canon have built something into the modern cameras software re third party t.c's

Just tried a canon mkiii t.c on the 80d with the sigma 150-600 sport and that won't work either ,so it would seem you need at minimum a 1D class body to use a t.c with this lens ,be interesting to know if anyone has got the lens and a t.c working on a crop factor body

I can confirm the 1D4 works well with the sigma C and the canon 1.4x mk2, it will also autofocus using my kendo MC7 2X with this lens, tho possibly not well enough for BIF.
But then I only have 16mp in an old design camera that weighs half a ton!

I've said numerous times the contemporary and the canon 1.4 tc work fine on the 7d2. So unless there's something different with the sport model. ..

must be something in that andy as i just get a error message .i presume its to do with the lens as i have now tried kenko HD and a mk3 canon t.c's on both the 7d2 and 80d both t.c's work fine on both cameras coupled to a 400mm f5.6 L .perhaps one of the older canon ones would work ,just in fact cleaned the contacts again and its still giving error 01 .
so yep there must be something different in the mix somewhere .i think the t.c will be heading the way of the bay as its no use to me now without the 1d3
