    Sigma 18-35 F1.8 art.

    Hi everyone

Have been looking at replacing my canon 17-85 and came across this great sounding sigma lens. 18-35 F1.8. Gets a very good review, but I have found a few people complain about auto focus with it on 70d and 7d.
Has anyone got this lens or had or heard of any problems. It's meant to be a cracking sharp lens. My 17-85 is very poor and I just wanted to replace it with a good bit of glass. Any help as always is appreciated. Thanks , nick.

Never used one ,but as part of the art range it should be tuneable via the USB hub ,you won't be using a lens like that for action I would have thought so any a.f problems shouldn't be that relevant .i take most reports as sour grapes anyway people with hidden agendas etc ,best bet is go on Flickr and search for camera and lens combo pics ,or another good site for that is Juza ,and see what others are producing with the combo

Not exactly a straight replacement for the 17-85 though, falls short at the long end by 50mm so unless you already have something to cover the 35-85mm range you're going to have a bit of a gap...

Usual recommended replacement for the 17-85 is the 15-85 - slightly wider at the short end same long end and optically much better, maximum aperture is no better though.

I have a 10-20,17-85, 50, 70, 70-200f4l, 70-300. I just find the 17-85 optically very poor. I was looking for a lens to be a walkabout lens and replace the 17-85. I will eventually upgrade to full frame but waiting for the 6d mk11 to see what that's like. So need a lens to fit my 70d. The sigma 18-35 looked geat. But has a few focusing issues with 70d and 7d. Going to have a look at camera shop at weekend and have a look and feel of what's available.

As mentioned the usual recommendation for a poor performing 17-85 is the 15-85 which seems to have a vastly better approval rating. Still if you are considering an upgrade to FF at some point then maybe it's worth considering a 24-70 - looking at Google you could get an f4L or a used f2.8 Mk1 for not too much more than the 18-35. As you have the 10-20 (Sigma I guess) the gap between 20 and 24mm in nothing.

I have used the 10-20 Sigma in conjunction with my 28-105 USM as a walkabout option and even then the gap between them was largely fixed by moving a couple of paces either way.

            Thank you El Sid.
I have this morning purchased a canon 24-70 f4L. Cracking lens and £150 cashbook too. And will be ready for the upgrade to full frame in the near future. 👍
