    Sigma 150-600 C Focus Issue

Hi everyone hope someone can help here, I have the above lens, fitted to a 7D MkII. I had the lens at 600mm the other day, and the 7D2 set to AI servo, with center point + expansion points. However, the combo refused to auto focus and kept switching to manual focus (I lost some decent shots). Switching the camera to just centre point AF cured the problem.

Yes, I have the dock, and the lens has the latest firmware.

Anyone else had the same problem!!!!!!

    Cheers
    Regards

Re: Sigma 150-600 C Focus Issue

There's something in the latest copy of the mag in the EOS 80D article where Nina Bailey talks about using her 100-400 with the 1.4x extender. Can't remember the exact words but it seems that some of cameras that support AF up to f8 can only do it with the centre AF point.

I wonder if you are suffering from this because the camera is taking into account the real f6.3 aperture and instigating the focus point limit. Might also be worth looking into the AF options and see if there's any kind of custom function that needs to be set.

Thanks for the input Nigel, appreciated.

Just popped out into the back garden, put the 7D2 into centre point with expansion - and as you would guess, focused no problem (a little sluggish sometimes, but still focused). Will have to keep an eye on this.

The 7D2 and your lens will support all AF modes at 600mm. As I understand it the lens lies to the camera telling it the max aperture is 5.6 not 6.3 so all AF modes should be supported, it's what I get with my combo which is the same as yours.

Sounds like something else is going on...

Used the same combination and settings for BIF twice this week with no problems.

have you applied any fine tuning with the dock .that might help .other than that possibly something wrong in the 7d2 setup . not having the C version of the lens i can't help further

Re: Sigma 150-600 C Focus Issue

As said it sounds more like a menu problem with the camera rather than the lens ,might be worth posting your settings and modes to see whether other 7d2 users can help
