Re: Red Kite feeding on the wing

Great shot. I was there twice last week, one day really blue sky, second overcast. Shots from day one good, not so good day two. Coming to the conclusion not to bother with BIF or static birds on overcast days.

Did you handhold the camera in one of the photography hides? Which lens?

        Regards

Re: Red Kite feeding on the wing

We go there once or twice a year and always in the Gateway Hide. This time it had been raining in the morning and the feeding was quite overcast which at least meant the light throughout was constant and the manual settings chosen at the start were fine for the whole session.

Lens was 300f4 and 1.4x on a 7DII and handheld - only time we use a tripod is for the odd landscape, never wildlife

Nice shot Dee,you can't really go wrong there ,it's one of the places I will use a tripod and gimbal though lenses get a big heavy after a couple of hours constant use

Excellent. For me that's one of the shots you want to get with a kite as it's the only bird that I know of that does that.

You will also see Hobby's eating dragonflies out of their talons on the wing Andy , I have taken a couple of shots of that action.

Good to know. I don't see many of those around though, well not close enough to see what they're up to...

yes but not too easy to spot it with hundreds of kites in the air and they don't always feed straight away - I followed quite a few but they just flew off with the meat although I has got the pose a few times in the past, Dee got it this time instead
