    CHALLENGE 121 A CHURCH

CHALLENGE 121. I would like to see a shot of a CHURCH, it can be an old/modern church any way you like or any angle you`d like to take the shot. The challenge starts Now and closes at midnight on the 20th September, so that gives you all plenty of time to get the shot and tweak it in whatever software you use. I hope I have done this right too.

    The standard competition rules apply:

    • The competition subject shall be selected by the winner of the preceding competition who will also judge the competition.
    • One picture per person; images should conform to general image posting rules.
    • Please use a Canon DSLR.
    • Posted images should be taken during the running period of the competition. Any images submitted that were taken before the competition started, or after the competition has ended, will be deemed invalid.
    • Images 800 pixels widest max (to help those with small monitors).
    • No Photoshop frames and borders.
    • Include a title; the image must convey the theme without title description.
    • Please, no comments, on images until the round is over.
    • No canvassing e.g. “I’m thinking of posting this image for the challenge, what do you think?”
    • I will pick 1st 2nd and 3rd favourite images (please don’t PM me to discuss my choices).

I, like previous members, will do my best to give an honest assessment of every entry. However I am not a judge and my assessments can only ever be my personal views of each of the entries.

Being an 'agnostic' I find the whole church thing uncomfortable but will try to find something at the weekend. Just didn't want you thinking we were ignoring you ;-)

                    Church of Santa Maria, Mahon

This Gothic Church has dominated the skyline overlooking Mahon Harbour since the 14th Century. I was fortunate to find an old boat in harbour on the night I went down with camera in hand, so we have the contrast of the old and new.... the church has seen it all

                        Will a chapel do?
Interior of the Georgian chapel at Compton Verney in Warwickshire. Built by Capability Brown and recently fully restored - restoration seemed to involve painting everything (including the chairs) in the same ivory coloured paint. Grade 1 listed.

Centre-piece - tomb of two earlier owners of the estate.

                        7D + 24-105L.

                        Cheers, Chris.
                        Just chuggin' along.

Not exactly a church, but part of one ...

York Minster-1 by Russell Hunt, on Flickr

This ceiling boss in York Minster was replaced (for some reason or another) in the Victorian era. The original showed the Virgin Mary breast feeding the infant Jesus. But prudes that they were, and despite being too high up on the ceiling for anyone to see without a telescope (or large lens) the breast was replaced by a bottle!

But in the spirit of the challenge, here's a shot of the Minster from the Roman Wall.
