    Night Castle

    Night Castle 2bw.jpg

This is no more than an experiment, liked the castle against a starlit sky, light provided by a mobile phone. i know it is very grainy.

IO would be glad of any comments and suggestion... relatively pleased with the result.

Personally I think I would crop out the roof and the harsh light. The tower alone against the sky works

      Re: Night Castle

we'll you need to sort the verticals, and I'd say the castle is over and I would tried 20 sec for the sky but less for the church as you could control this by not putting the phone on straight away

        Thanks for your comments

Had another look, removed most of the roof and looked at the verticals

Sorry, they are not working for me.
The first composition is better, but a bit too blown on the bottom corner.
Did you use that ISO deliberately to get gain? If not I'd have used ISO 100 and a tripod.

agree the first composition is much better

The problem using an even slower shutter speed (which you would at iso 100)is the stars will become streaks as they are moving all the time and 20secs is about as long as you can get away with to keep the stars pin sharp.

There is a rough and ready calculation to work out max exposure time to avoid star trails. Divide focal length into 500.

                  Re: Night Castle

Nigel, it is great to experiment, and it very nearly works. In terms of composition of what you took, I think I'd go for the width of the second but the depth of the first, even with the blown out corner. And if you do it again, try with different lengths of lighting as Ian suggested.

Agree with the above, think it would look better plus a slight straighten.
