How to take light show photos

Up here in Perthshire, throughout October, we have a light & music show called Enchanted Forest. It is all within a small wood with a loch as the central attraction. The show consist of static lights lighting up trees ( which I can cope photographing), then there are lasers, water spouts & moving lights on the loch. These I struggle with, can anyone give me some tips on how to set my 700d up to achieve some decent pictures this year?

Depends whether you want to freeze the movement or not. In both cases a tripod would be preferable and because the lights are going to be very much brighter than the background you will probably need to dial in some negative exposure compensation to avoid them blowing out. Aperture somewhere around f8 - 11and a shutter of around 1/1000 to freeze or 1/250 or so for movement

Here is my flickr album of shots taken at Longleat last christmas to give you an idea of what can be achieved. Of course I shot in raw and cheated a certain amount by post processing

Stan they are a great set of photos, was there any movement, or were they all static?

They were all static just trying to demonstrate the need to underexpose.

I'd agree with everything that Stan has suggested. Good luck
