    Re: Arches

A nice sharp, colourful and interesting image that is well composed with a tantalising "what's around the corner" element

You're clearly happy to embrace the bizarre distortions that are part and parcel of an 11mm lens and long may it be. Have you considered using it for portraits? Hmm

    Cheers,
    John

thanks John - Yes the 11-24 is starting to become my walkabout lens, just a shame its so big and heavy !!

whilst I do enjoy playing with the distortions it offers I also like to use it correctly like the stairs shot I recently posted - as for portraits, yep played with that :)

            Re: Arches

Think the distortion is a bit too much for my liking.

Perhaps one of those shots best loved by the person/s that were there rather than those that come along after the event

You've not said too much about the Mark lV.................have you just slid into it like an old shoe?

Interesting comment Bo, John seemed to enjoy it but as others haven't said anything maybe your right

As for the camera, I'd say it did OK

                Re: Arches

Yes the distortion is excessive but in this case it works for me, partly, I think, because the next arch is at a wonky angle so it adds to the discombobulation. If you were aiming for a purely architectural record shot I think it would be too much.

                    Re: Arches

I think you would need the TSE 17 to get a true architectural shot here and even that would probably end up being a stitch job.

Having said that, I like the shot as is. Yes there is distortion but I think it emphasises the arch. Symmetry is excellent and colours and processing really nice.

Personally I would have liked some ground to give some height context but perhaps that would have introduced too many distractions.

I've been following your 11-24 results and it certainly looks like a very capable lens indeed.

Oh yes, I somehow doubt our esteemed Tigger would have estate agents ('realtors' for those for those whose first language isn't English ) beating a path to his door as this really can only be considered as a piece of digital art - albeit a very fine piece although unlikely it'll be to everyone's taste.

Would this scene be improved with a TS-E 17? Maybe from an architectural perspective - but it wouldn't be half as much fun

                      Cheers,
                      John

Edit: After hitting send I read Enigma's comment re TS-E 17 which shows great minds think alike

                        Re: Arches

I can live with the distortion as it adds to the 'arch' feel of the shot. And nice to see blue skies in your images again mate. Was this Russia or back home?

I wasn't going for a true architectural shot as I wanted to try something a little different and play the main arch, so this shot is just what I planned and wanted

The reason for loosing the bottom was parked up cars and people - so took the shot to loose these

                          Glad you enjoyed the shot
