    FL-F 300mm f/5.6 Fluorite

So after of years of looking for a mint example, I’ve finally got my hands on a piece of Canon (and photography!) history. The FL-F 300mm f/5.6 Fluorite and it’s a cracker! I haven’t chance to shoot it in anger yet, but here’s a few pictures of the lens itself.326AD2EC-0164-4920-8CCE-616399872EF3.jpeg

What a beauty. It would look good on the end of my immaculate black AE1.

That brings back some memories, a great lens. One of the few things that I sold, then to a very good friend at a knock down price

How much? This one cost me £350 and worth every penny!

I think it was £450, I wanted to get a FD 300mm f2.8 which I still got - Boxed! I have a bad habit in that I buy new gear but never sell the old, got a cupboard full of stuff, wife always telling me we could open a camera shop. Last thing I bought was the 100-400 Mkll plus 1.4 TC Mklll, still got the old ones!
Still my old film cameras - F1, A1, AE1, AE Programme plus numerous FD lens. I keep saying I must get rid of it, but that's as far as it goes.

£350 was a bargain then it seems especially considering its condition! I also have the FD 300mm f/2.8L which I posted about in this forum last year, again I couldn’t believe my luck with the price I paid and it’s condition.

I think we’re cut from the same cloth, my mrs asked me how many vintage lenses have I got now? I just said “quite a few” it’s actually 51! That’s not including my EF and EF-M lenses!

Good Lord, I've got no where near that many. Do you collect them, well yes you do, but as a hobby or do you use them. As I mentioned I don't collect stuff, just put the old things away in the cupboard and buy new. Thinking I'll put that on e-bay next week - I never do. A lot of my gear gets a bit of a hammering - knocked about in what I do in another line of photography. So, the re-sell price would be next to nothing.

I both collect and use them all, some are basic, but high quality and others are a bit more exotic and harder find. I try to get the best possible condition as well, but typically the older they are the harder it is to find mint examples. It’s taken a few years, but this is what I have:

INCREDIBLE. No doubt when you go on a photo shoot you don't take a 'Back Pack' but hire a couple of donkeys.

                      No, the wife!

Actually, I tend to take a few from the same manufacturer when I go out, mainly because I wouldn’t know what lens was used if I took all sorts out with me because obviously there’s no EXIF data for the lens.

EDIT: What has the sever done with the compression? They look awful! Believe me, this thing is tack sharp!
