! Blury circular bubbles on night photos ! Help !

Now I have a feeling this is going to be a popular topic but...

Below are two photos that I took last night.

I have had this problem since I started up photography (Start of January) and I want to sort it out!

I have Blury Circular Bubbles which occur on mainly night time photos.

I have made sure my lens is completely clear before any one asks :).

I think persoanlly there is too much light entering my Canon 550D 18-135mm Lens so today I have purchased a HOOD for it...

I am just looking for your opinions please :)

This I would say is a form of Bokeh where the light from the street lamp or other bright light sources has been refracted and is showing as an out of focus blob, have a look at the Wikipedia link that explains Bokeh http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh

If I have this wrong then I am sure others will correct me

      Lensflare.

A strong point light source will bounce off the lens elements internally, causing the flare you see.

A lenshood will help reduce some towards the edge and changing the angle of the shot slightly can further reduce the effect, but if you are pointing the lens at a strong point lightsource, you will get flare. In the days of film you were stuck with it. With digital, you can minimise the effect with Photoshop.

      Nothing wrong with your lens.

I agree with comments colin C has given, though you are having a bit of lens distortion because the vertical lines are converging ie: leaning in towards each other.
this is easy to fix using software.

Leading on from Colin's point, did you have any filters on your lens?
          Cheers

Please feel free to critique or rework my pictures unless I ask otherwise.

          Oh Lord won't you buy me a 300mm F2.8L (or at a push, a 200-400 F4).
