Monthly Theme for July - Flowers

The monthly theme has not been active for a while so I thought I’d have a go and get the ball rolling with an idea for this month.

Steven frequently posts lovely pics of flowers and David posted some some great ones of orchids recently so I thought that this would be a good subject to start off with. Flowers should be a wide enough brief to enable you to find something wherever you happen to be. Any flower or flowers you like, in a garden, cut flowers, wild flowers, bouquets, arrangements, borders, close up macros etc. so it should give everyone a wide scope.

    The basics :

(I have taken the liberty of clarifying the rule regarding the camera to be used as this is an EOS forum and to make it consistent with the same rule in the photo challenge; but if this is a problem, please say and I’ll restore it to what it was).
    • This is not a competition, it's purely for fun
    • All photos should be your own and be taken within the month of the chosen theme
    • You can post as many photos as you wish
    • Comments on submitted photos are welcome
    • Please include the exif details (these may be helpful to other members)
    • All entries to be shot with a Canon EOS camera i.e. SLR / DSLR / M & R series
    • The chosen theme, should be as inclusive as possible

I’m happy to set a theme for the month for the time being or as long as everyone is happy to participate but if anyone else wants to have a go please say! Suggestions for a theme for the following month always welcome.

Have fun and I look forward to seeing all your submissions!

    Ian,
Great idea and I am happy for you to set a theme each month.

Here is my starter for 10, when the weather is a little less inclement I hope to be able to post a further photo.
    comments welcome.

Today there is some sunshine so I have tried to take a further photo of my orange flowers.
The image here is not the greatest but is the best of the ones taken this morning -- I would appreciate comments to help me improve.

A good close up Rose that I think would benefit from being a little more central and having a greater depth of field. Where have the white spots come from? I thought they where on my screen until I moved the pic! Are they on the flower? I assume they are not on your camera/lense.

Hi Rose agree with Ian's comments.
Looking on flickr your EXIF, it says your shutter speed was 1/80sec. Unless your were using a tripod I would suggest your shutter speed is a bit to slow.

                    Hello Ian and Gary,
thank you for your taking time to look at my photographs and providing comments.

I know I was not central, I was constrained by the the angle of the sun and wanted to take the photo in sunlight.
The white spots are on the flower, not my camera or lens I glad to say. I hope to be able to try again with my small tripod - should have thought of that!
