The Theme for January is Close-up

The theme for January is close-up as I suspect that a lot of us will be stuck at home with the ongoing pandemic situation and this should enable you to find something about the house or garden to take. This can be of anything at all, your own choice, to give you the most scope to find something. In addition to straight close ups perhaps consider close ups with unusual perspectives or angles.
I do appreciate that not everyone will have a macro lense or one with that facility but this is not an essential requirement, use whatever you have (eg you could use a telephoto lense instead and this can be an advantage sometimes).
Look forward to seeing your entries!

    The basics :
    • This is not a competition, it's purely for fun.
    • All photos should be your own and be taken within the month of the chosen theme.
    • You can post as many photos as you wish.
    • Comments on submitted photos are welcome.
    • Please include the exif details (these may be helpful to other members).
    • All entries to be shot with a Canon EOS camera i.e. SLR / DSLR / M & R series.
    • The chosen theme, should be as inclusive as possible.

That’s a good pic Gary, like the detail in the ice crystals. It works well how you have composed it.

This is the small South American orchid Lepanthes fimbriata, the flower is a little over 4mm wide.

        Canon EOS R. E F 100mm 2.8 Macro. ISO 1000. f6.3 1/200
To get the fine detail all in focus the image was stacked from 62 images at approximately 0.1 mm increments.

That is a great pic, focus stacking has worked very well. And I like how you have lit it as well. Well done.

                  Soaked Carnation.
What else can one do with a vase of flowers!
                  Settings: 90D, EF100mmL macro lens, F18, Shutter 0.8, ISO 200, on a tripod.
Tried the in-camera Focus Stacking, but thought High ISO Speed NR gave better results for this image.

That’s a very good shot Gary, at first glance it looks quite like a beetle in the snow. Only on looking closer do you see that it is twigs & leaves. Well done for spotting; and you got the depth of field just right too!

Two great shots Janet, lovely detail, I like both of them. My preference is for the first one, possibly because I appreciate how tricky it can be to get the exposure correct on an all red subject but both are great. Well done.

Thanks Ian. I forgot to mention that it was set to -1 for exposure.
