Can anyone recommend a hide which is large enough to sit in with a tripod in reasonable comfort but small enough not to offend Management

I got a couple of WWS ones from my filming days, but you were a bit cramped when you had a seat (milk crate) and a fluid head tripod in there with you. Never use them now, prefer to just use DPM gear, allows you to move around more. Hides don't give you 360 degree of coverage - view.
Agree with David like the Simon King one's they can be a problem putting up in windy conditions and putting away.
If you want something permanent - make one out of plywood - cheaper than buying a WWS or Simon King one. I got four scattered around my place that I made but again hardly ever use them now.
Don't forget Christmas is coming - drop a few hintsTrev

You don't say what lenses you plan to use. I had a 500mm f/4 and used the a Wimberley gimbal head in a hide and it worked well. I now have a 300mm f/2.8 lens with a 1.4 converter. I use an Arca ball head with a Wimberley sidekick. You get the best of both worlds as the ball head on its own is ideal for shorter lenses.
I think DPM is camouflage clothing. If you buy a hide a camping stool is a good option, although you may want to consider a beer crate. If nothing's happening at least you can get p....d!

Currently the largest lens would be an EF 100-400 plus a converter, that is if I ever get the R adapter. Depending on how that performs it could be the RF 100-500 plus a converter or an RF 800, which I think are smaller and lighter. Anything larger would arrive wrapped in a decree absolute!!
The sidekick looks an excellent idea but there does to appear to be one for a mid range Manfrotto ball head. I thought the Benro GH2 gimbal looked about right for my level of competence
Thank you for the DPM info, I think a manufactured hide will be simpler!Last edited by JayTee; 20-11-2020, 15:07.

It is of course up to you but I think the Benro GH2 gimbal head is a bit of overkill. It's ideal for large heavy lenses but I would never use my 100-400, even with a 1.4 converter, on my Wimberley head, which is almost identical to the Benro. I always found a ball head better and would hand hold it for flight or action shots.

Trev what is DPM gear? Also you mentioned a fluid head, is that better in a hide than a gimbal. I have to buy a new one and now I am not sure which
The plywood and milk crate will be difficult in my stocking!!
Nowadays I just prefer to put on one of my old DPM jackets and trousers with a bit of netting and settle down in the base of a hedge or wherever.
The Hides I referred to were WWS - Wildlife Watching SuppliesTrev
