    Photography Xmas Present

Did anyone get anything in 'photography' for a Christmas present?

    I did not

Nor me, there again I would never ask my wife for anything photographic. I would be too afraid if she went in a camera shop she would see the price of things, and work out how much I had paid for some of my gear. ---- I hope she never sells it, for what I told her I paid for it.

I had an EL-100 flash gun, mainly for use with the R as it is lighter and significantly expands capabilities.

All I ever get is socks.

So I usually get my own present and this year it was an 8 inch bench grinder. It arrived damaged!

Why do you need to grind your bench?

Not exactly photographic, but I received the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Portfolio 30. To be honest I see better images on this forum. I also have a bit of an issue with the winning image being taken with a camera trap. I may be old fashioned but I think the photographer should be out there using field craft skills and patience to capture the image. By all means have a section for camera trap images. I suppose they'll be having images taken with drones next.

This may be a bit of a rant but it will be interesting to see what other members think.

Could not agree more Brian. Wildlife photography to me, is as you say using field craft, skill and patience to capture the shot. I'm not a great fan of hides, I put my hand up to using the bedroom window, but those are opportunity shots. Studio shots are also on my taboo list, we've seen them, tame mice crawling up flower stems, they never look natural. I can never get any enthusiasm for zoo shots, I remember a year or so ago someone on here got right up tight and was insulting because I criticised a shot of a bird he took in a bird park. the pictures now under 'Guest' for reasons which I know. There's Wildlife Photography and there's Photography of Wildlife - both are completely different in my mind.
