New Canon EOS RF 5.2 mm f2.8 dual fisheye lens

I have read that the field of view of this lens is so wide that if you look through the viewfinder, you can see your own backside!

Not something I will be buying then as not a pretty sight, great for the pornographers though.

Handy to get a shot of what’s going on behind you at the same time as the shot in front!

All joking aside, is there a place for this in photography? Or is it just for drones and video work ?
And is this the first time anyone has produced a dual lens ?
Canon EOS R5, R6 plus the usual suspects ......

It would be more than useful to the military especially for drone work. Extra WA lens are already being used for surveillance and reconnaissance purposes. I frequently use the 14mm f2.8.

Yes, moving smartly away from my flippant initial post, the lens is apparently intended for Virtual Reality applications.

Sorry to be a dunce, but there really is a question in there !

I gather it has 190 degree vision

I get the video and drone stuff but would you ever take a photo with it.... for instance on top of a viewpoint such as the Shard to show London spread out in front of you?

Or would the bendy bits mean you'd be better doing a panorama stitch ?

An interesting one! Maybe it will find it's use in some commercial projects? I do lots of wedding films and can't really think of it as part of my kit. If I did have it in my bag then it would only be used from time to time but at that price it's an expensive lens to have just to do an extra shot or two on a wedding day.

Hello lunarbo, sorry for the bump but I wonder what drone stuff do you use? Recently I got very intertested in this type of photograghy, but I do not know how to choose the first drone...Thank you!

Taking this thread back to its original subject. I’ve recently seen some shots taken with this lens over Salisbury Plain and Dartmoor from a a helicopter from a height of 600 feet. They were very impressive showing great detail of the ground.
