    Most memorable experience

I've just finished reading the 'New Big 5 Project' article in the latest issue of EOS Magazine, which I found very interesting being an amateur wildlife photographer. It got me thinking about my most memorable experience and then thought it may make a good thread on this forum for members to recount their most memorable experiences from any genre of photography.

To get things started mine involves an elephant in South Africa. My partner, Christine and I were sitting in a safari vehicle in a dry river bed beside one of the few remaining pools of water surrounded by a herd of elephants in the Sabi Sand. An elephant on the other side of the pool decided to cross and approached our vehicle. It was only when we could no longer focus that we took our cameras away from our eyes to discover that he had stopped just a couple of metres from our vehicle and proceeded to feed on some vegetation. He was so close we could have reached out and touched him, though that would have been the worst thing we could do. Instead we just sat there and enjoyed the experience of being in the company of a completely wild animal, who was relaxed enough to permit us to share a few moments of his life with him.

Wonderful shot & a great experience. Very envious John, have alerts when it is meant to be visible in our area, but never managed to see it. One day.

This maybe run of the mill for most of you, but I have been after this shot for the last 5 visits to our son in New York & last year I managed what I had envisaged for the previous visits to this spot. Not many people around, decent clear sky & view & at last I was happy with what I knew was the best I could achieve. Sits proudly in my living room now and have some happy memories of what was a red letter day for me.

Great shots John and David. It would be good if the EOS Magazine did a piece on this, especially if we have more contributions.
