    Abstract Building Frontage

This image is from a trip to New Zealand in 2017, which shows part of a building frontage. I have absolutely no idea what the function of the metalwork is, or if in fact it has any function other than in the mind of the designer.
However if anyone has any knowledge of the purpose of the metalwork I would appreciate knowing what the purpose is?

If it helps I believe that the building may be a Bank.

Unusual and different. Why, perhaps the Architect got shares in the local steel company. Seriously, is it not something to do with heat reflection or something like that

The positioning of steel structures like this outside the glass frontages is to reduce the impact of falling glass in case of explosion/terrorist attack.

.....it may of course just be a visual effect but its the most likely the reason having seen several such examples in the UK in the course of my past interface with security orgs.

Trev B and Brian (for some reason I couldn't create a tag for Brian (the @ in your user name may be the reason) , since posting last night I've found some information regarding the building design.

G**gle came up with this article:-

We are a global creative collective with a shared vision for a better planet.

You can scroll down on the page for more information, rather than swiping through images. Mind you the images give a greater feel for the design than my cropped image.

The mirrors on the North Facade are a sunscreen and reference the native NZ Pohutukawa tree, this tree is more commonly known in NZ as the Christmas Tree.

Thanks for looking and commenting gents.

Just had a quick look on the internet, the building is the ASB Bank and the design says “a distinctive sunscreen on the north facade references the leaves of the Pohutukawa, a native New Zealand North Island tree”. That’s what it says.
