St. Hedda Church Egton Bridge

Just a few images of the exterior of this grand old building. None of the images are really of the building structure, though more about the additions that are along the entrance drive to the Rectory.

#3 Four of thirteen plaques mounted along the wall, I've not been able to find out anything about these. The Church wasn't open at the time of the visit but I suspect that there will be information regarding these inside the church.

Lovely set Peter. Always think Churches got such great character, I visit a lot myself photographing their wood carvings - screens, pulpits etc.

Thanks Bill, like you I’ve driven through Egton Bridge lots of times but I hadn’t realised that the stepping stones existed. It was only a sixty year old family picture of my brother in law as a three year old fishing with a net in the Mill race that led to our visit to see if we could find the spot he was fishing.
I wasn’t even aware of where the Mill was in Egton Bridge, I used the National Library of Scotland Georeferenced maps to locate it. The georeferenced maps are a great resource LINK. I find them great to identify historical bits and bobs, you can alter the opacity of the maps to overlay new to old.

Thanks Trev, this church is very interesting both inside and out, I’m sure I’ve posted interior images of it on here a number of years ago. It also has a lot of history to it mostly to do with a Catholic Priest who was hung drawn and quartered in York LINK
