Chapel of St Mary's School, Shaftesbury

This is the interior of the chapel at what was St Mary's RC School near Shaftesbury. The school closed in 2020 and has been bought by Devon County Council.

SWMBO and I visited there today so that she could check the radioactive sources in the physics building before re-allocation to another school or disposal.

We took the opportunity for a sneak look into the chapel, but no time to set up the 5D4 with the 10mm lens for a nice wide interior shot, so this is a 3-shot portrait pano from the M5, with all the attendant distortion from hand holding and bodily rotation!

What I find particularly intriguing is the compasses symbol in the little blue roundel on the altar. (On re-examination, it is probably an Alpha & Omega intertwined).

I am not sure they really know yet - there is talk of a school for those with special educational needs, but SWMBO and I think it would make a great wedding venue - plenty of accomodation, lovely grounds and a nice chapel to boot!

The 10mm lens would have made for an interesting composition but this works equally well. Very nice indeed.

That was my first thought Bob, but it seems a bit unlikely for the Sisters of Loreto!
