    Fire Escape.

Three years ago when I was here I took a whole series of shots of fire escapes, they just fascinate me how different they can be. Couldn't resist this set.

Fire escapes seems to be one of the icon things about NY, they’re always in movies. Good capture David

Interesting shot David. When you've escaped down to the first floor how do you get the street. Also why do the escape go up onto the roof is this for a helivac.

You just push the spring loaded bottom section down, it is to stop people from gaining access via fire escape.
the reason it goes to the roof is most apartment blocks have internal access to roof space as a lot of them are flat roofs and some even have gardens. In order to escape a fire high up in the building they go onto the roof and then down the external escape.
