The news said it was a good night to take star photos, so I went out with my 6D, 35mm F2, tripod and tried to take some photos, these are some of the best,

This is my first go at taking star photos, I think they worked okay.

Well done Chris, you clearly live in a good place to take them, I seem to get too much light pollution in the evening so it would have to be in the early hours of the morning for me; and I’d want it milder!

Just seen these. I think they are good for a first attempt, not that I've ever photographed stars. Ian mentioned about light pollution, yet you seem to have quiet a light sky in the second shot and yet achieved a good result. Was that light pollution or the result of a long exposure.

Thanks for the comments. It was cold that night -3C.

I live close to Manchester Airport, these photos was taken at the end of a lane facing west, the airport is to the north, but the levels of light pollution are lower with the airport operating at reduced capacity. The light sky, I think, was the remains of the setting sun picked up on the long exposure. I did try stacking three images but the results weren't as good as these.

nice images. what settings did you use?
Betelgeuse, Aldebaran and Mars in a clear bright triangle, and
a great catch of Pleiades (Seven Sisters) - far right.

The camera was set to manual, Iso fixed at 500, exposure time between 5 and 10 second at f2.8. Tripod mounted using a 2 second self timer. No post processing.

Came out better than I expected .
