    Light painting

Have a new version of Affinity Photo and am taking it out for a test drive. Thought I would give light painting a shot.

    Home Slumbering Forest.
These dogwood trees just refuse to let go of their leaves, as such they really stand out while the rest of the forest has gone to bed for the winter.

A small lake north of me, where the morning sun peeked up over a hill highlighting the trees, so so quiet that morning.

Love the reflection so very peaceful.

Wonder if the dogwood shot could do with a bit of a boost? The background feels a bit too dark and the dogwood itself doesn't stand out as much as it might.

I have to confess I was expecting colour and lots of it but these, actually, work well,
I assume by light painting you mean brightening selected areas such as the adjustment brush in LR.

The constructive criticism I'd make is:
I agree that the dogwood could stand out more but I'd be inclined to see if adjusting the blacks would work.
The lake shot really is terrific but, if you 'painted' light over the trees did you also apply it to their reflections?

      But both really nice

      Cheers,
      John

Vert nice but incline to agree with John’s criticism, but two great shots.

            Thanks Nigel
So lighten up the trees in background?

Oh my goodness John, you are so right! Yes I was brightening up already lighter areas, and on the lake kinda sorta, well ok I forgot to paint over and expose the reflection part. Thanks for catching that. I’ll see what I can do with blacks on trees behind the dogwood.
