Wood Carving at St Mary's Parish Church - Lindisfarne

    Hi all

Was at Holy Island on Tuesday - for the first time, took a peek inside the Church and was amazed to see this HUGE wooden sculpture. There are in fact 4 bearers, just showing the front 2. Got the tripod down low for a better perspective. Converted to b&w in CS3, slight sepia tint added in power retouche toned photo. Cloned out some wires and a camera, also got rid of the lines in the flagstones, made the image look tilted.

    c&c welcomed

Not sure the sepia timt works here... would like to see a B&W...

Hi Lez, what was your rationale behind f16 and ISO400? Could you not have better isolated the statue with f4, blurring the background?

Really like this one, prefer bw but the sepia is also interesting, nice perspective without blurred background , gives depth to it.

Thanks for the comments Dave & Nigel, appreciated.

I chose the settings deliberately, any lower ISO would've given too long a shutter speed. As I was only a couple of feet from the carving, I used f16 for more DOF. This is actually a crop from the original that shows the surroundings it's in.

Going back to SS/iso combination, the main image is an HDR from 5 exposures. The darkest image being shot at f16/27s, so iso 100 was impossible to use.

            Original below

Work is in progress at cloning out all the modern elements, very nearly done.

Thanks Pete, it was a very spooky experience, was a lot darker inside than it looks.
