        Thanks Guys
The images are straight out of Lightroom where I used the "Aged Photo" preset. Don't look pink on my calibrated monitor. Is your monitor calibrated? Worried now :)

Hmmm...... Anyone else have lightroom? Would be useful to see what others get from the "Aged Photo" preset

Took the liberty of digging out a baby picture and adding the preset.

Yours look fine on my calibrated monitor but they do have a very slight hint off pink on my dad’s laptop nothing I would worry bout though still look great.

F.Y.I. All above pics show slightly pink on both my laptop and separate screen, but neither are calibrated. All the best, Mike.

                  Re: More Simple Lighting

Thanks Martin I really appreciate that. Love the expression on that one lol

I'm not overly worried about the pink as they were for the parents and they parents love them all :) But I have changed my images that I was submitting to the SWPP mentor me programme as I'd like to play around a little more to perhaps remove that.

I'm not keen on many sepia type images - I thought these using the Aged Photo preset gavce them a slightly fresher look but I might go back to Silver Effex to try their presets too. I use Lightroom because it's very quick!

                  Thanks again
                  Jim

                    Re: More Simple Lighting

very nice set Jim. where is the light positioned relative to you and the subjects and roughly how far are they in front of the background?

                      Re: More Simple Lighting

It's a big softbox and is positoned just to my left side. the subjects are only 2-3 feet from the softbox and the background is a further 4-5 feet back. Because of the small room, the light does bounce around a bit so there was a little light on the background on some but can usually be dealt with in Lr.

No worries David. Some images with a black background I use a hair light to separate the subject from the background but just bought some gels so may try playing around with some colour now :)

'scuse my ignorance Jim, what do you mean by "hair light"? I am guessing it is a light directed at the back of the subjects head? presumably, if that is right, you'd only have it at a low power level.

                              Re: More Simple Lighting

THe hair light is exactly as you say and it can be pointed at the shoulders/head to provide separation of the subject from the background.

In order to get the separation if it is lower in power you would not see it so actually it needs to be brighter than the main light. THis is determined by the colour of the hair. You need to light dark hair more than blonde hair as dark hair absorbs the light.

If the hair light is about a stop brighter than your main light it will help create separation. If the subject is blonde that could be less as you don't want to blow out the hair. For very dark hair it could require 2 stops. All measured with a flash meter.

I play around to be honest but fun when it works.
