Post Tsunami 2004- Sri Lanka revisited 2013 (2)

I am sure many members would remember the Boxing day Tsunami on 26th Dec 2004. The Indian ocean in the name of Tsunami rose up 30 feet in height to destroy everything in it's path,. The worst affected parts were after Bentota on the way to Galle. I took this trip to see whatever remained of the devastation. The Japanese Govt, Sri Lankan Govt with all the international aid, have done much to repair the damage.

All photos taken with the Canon 60D + 24-105mm; ISO 125; TV 200. Please note that the statutue is over 30ft in height so as to tower over the Tsunami.

    (i) Japanese/Sri Lankan Govt/Hong Kong Govt reconstruction efforts.

    (ii) Evidence of Tsunami damage

(iii) Lord Buddha's statute built with international aid. This was built to prevent further Tsunami's. Note the Buddha's right hand showing the "STOP" sign.

    (d) Rear of the statute which also shows the Indian ocean in the distance.

Check them again. The delay is because I have to post the pics one by one to get over the 503 problem.

Thanks Tom. Many foreign vistors/tourists too died and I believe one was Sir David Attenborough's niece or grand daughter.

Seeing them now, Nat. I think the child you refer to was Sir David's brother, Sir Richard Attenborough's granddaughter.
            Nice set. Thanks for sharing.
