    Stormy Sea

I thought I would try a different process as I got out just to see what I could snap as we had some bad weather recently .. Its odd but when you look at wave photos they never seem to impress as much as when your taking them - So thought I would try putting some life into this shot with a B&W line drawing look

      Only because you have asked:

The sea is not particularly tempestuous (although I doubt anyone who fell in would last long). The sky lacks any detail. The buildings seem very nondescript.

Apart from those minor points it's astounding!

      (IMHO)

Only my opinion. Perhaps others might take a moment to offer their opinions as well, even if negative.

I think the issue is that the image did nothing for me so I didn't comment initially. In contrast, most of your other images have a wow factor which does drive very positive comment.

So don't go selling the Mk IV ... :-)

...well it is a bit dull...but at least it conveys the turbulence of the stormy sea as it reaches the beach....you've rescued an unremarkable image from the jaws of....not sure there was a great picture to be had anyway.

For me the seas are a but to sharp, a longer shutter speed to soften them a bit, there is not a lot of tonal difference between the sea and the buildings to draw me into the image. It would help if you would do some dodging and burning to help draw the viewer into the image, just my thoughts

                  Re: Stormy Sea

A rough sea is often a good subject and this is certainly a rough sea. What this mono processing seems to be seeking is to convey just how cold and miserable the weather was but was that strictly necessary? I think not as a stormy sea works just as well on a sunny day. So here I think a bit of colour would have provided more interest and brought more comments that it has.

                  Cheers,
                  John

Sadly the sky has nothing in it. The sea could use a bit more contrast, the buildings I like

Even you have some fails mate lol

LOL, I just saw this Ian! I am on the same page with what the others said. I usually don't say much about a photo unless it really catches my eye. From a mono standpoint this image doesn't really jazz me. Contrast isn't there. The details don't make me say WOW like your usual photos. The sky could have used an ND gradual to bring it a bit in check. For me it isn't the processing at all. It's just the image doesn't exude your normal care. Sorry guy.
