    Interesting choice of dark tones here...took me a few moments to work out the lie of the land regarding the steps leading down.

        Great composition of a very interesting location I can't help feeling, though, that given how dark you've portrayed the scene that that lamp should be lit - perhaps a bit of adjustment brush glow?

              Hmmm, not sure this is one of your most successful, Ian. I do get the feeling of 'sleepy village', there is a definite Sleeping Beauty type vibe of dormancy, but there's not quite enough tonal difference for me across the scene. Perhaps a pool of light on the shrub, or a lighter path down the steps, and/or as John says make more of the street lamp? I don't know, but it just needs a bit more of something. Only IMHO of course.

                    I think that's much better as it aids the eye's transition down the alley maybe a few more Kelvins than I envisaged but near enough
