I decided today in view of all the depressing news to take myself away out of it. I went to Dartmoor and walked to Fur Tor. Fur Tor is situated in one of the most remote places on Northern Dartmoor, it is however one of my favourite walks. I started my walk at Post Bridge climbing up Drift Lane to Broad Down and onto the Sandy Lane Pass and followed the East Dart River upstream to the waterfall at Kit Steps. Then headed up to Cut Hill and the North West Passage where you can see Fur Tor in the distance from the top. An excellent walk on a clear but cold day with a total distance there and back of 14 miles.
Its not a walk you take lightly, a lot of it is through the peat bogs and over very rough terrain of the northern moor. Obviously a map and compass are an absolute must and the skill to use them.
