    24-105 f4 on 70d

    Hi

Has anybody used the 24-105 on a 70d camera as the walk about lens ,or would I be better looking at the following ef-s lenses 15-85 or 18-135
    Any input would be greatful

My walk around lens is the 24-105 F4 on my 5Dmk3 and I love it.

For the average photo this lens is a great size.

I agree, it is excellent....and I think would balance nicely with the 70D
I used to have one on a 50D....hardly ever took it off.
Also a better choice if you ever intend using it on a full frame camera.....the EF-S lenses cant be used of full frame of course.

It’s a great lens, of course, being L series, and works just fine on your 70d. If you move onto a full frame camera then it would go with you but the other 2 lenses you mention would not as they are EFS lenses

As a walk about lens? Well it depends on what type of photography you do. I had a 18-200 mm on my 70d and it was brilliant - grab and go and it covered everything . Perfect for travel too as a one lens option.

However....... you may need that extra bit of width from 18 to 24 mm on a crop camera. When I eventually bought my 24-105 L I took it to Paris for a long weekend by mistake instead of the 18-200. I found I sometimes couldn’t get all of a building in ( I don’t mean the Tower!) so I had to go for some more imaginative shots

so you should ask yourself what kind of shots you take on your walkabouts. If it’s big landscapes and whole buildings then you will need the extra width that the 15 or 18 to 24 range gives you on a crop camera . If it’s the whole of the church AND a close up of the gargoyle on top then the 18 to 135 might suit you better.

Sounds as if you’ve considered your needs rather than the seductive little red band and the letter L !

Its a fine lens and will serve you well.
