    I think the inscription refers to a 'second Chance' the cross was built there in the late 1890's by a George Martin who I believe was a local vicar, after two Royal Navy ships collided and sank in the area.
    The Cornish coast is notorious for ship wrecks.

    I just realised I used the word 'Memorial' in fact is not a memorial but a Day Mark - a navigation aid.
