    Lantern Bugs

    These are among my most favorite insects :). Fulgoridae.

    Pyrops shiinaorum


    Pyrops karenia


    A Frilly Gecko (Hemidactylus craspedotus) enjoying free flow of honeydew from a few lantern bugs (Pyrops oculata)


    Pyrops heringi


    Zanna nobilis


    Pyrops intricata


    Pyrops whiteheadi


    All taken with a 40D, 150mm macro lens, 1.4x teleconverter/extender, and tripod. All with natural light, no flash.

      First time I've ever seen any of those insects ... colours are great .

                            Interesting images. Had to look up lantern bugs as I was intrigued abut the name only to find out its derived from a myth.

                            One other myth associated with these was that if bitten you would die if you didn't have sex within 24 hours!
