trying the kenko DGX 1.4xTC on 100 f2.8 LIS

A sunny day in the garden + the beginnings of Bug Life gave me the chance to try out my new Kenko DGX TC with my 100 LIS on the 7D. Using AF + IS was the game (I couldn't use this with the my old DG TC as it continually hunted but didn't lock focus)

I'm glad to say that AF worked a treat and the IS was as good as it was with the bare lens. Here are a couple of examples (lit using the on-board flash in manual exposure mode - yet another experiment ) :

a crab spider and a common gnat

Nothing wrong with those the detail is very good and the IS I assume helped as the subjects are stationary. My Kenko TC does work but as you mention it doesn't auto focus very well

thanks Muscat, the IS helps as even when the subject is static I'm not! .

Clear enough to make me lift my feet... does that spider really have four eyes, or am I seeing things?

They're only tiny and this is the Female (the male is even smaller and brown - most uninteresting to look at if you do spot one). Nope, not 4 eyes, 8 in total! Did you spot the catchlights in all four of the front facing ones though?

Yes saw the lights in the eyes... Coming to the conclusion that you become a "real" photographer the moment you reach for the camera, rather than a shoe when you come across a creepy crawlie.

yup, it drive my wife mad when I shout -"don't kiil it, I haven't got the shot" with a spider or wasp in the house (she is getting better though, she looks at my bug shots without screaming now! )
