    Editing movie clips

I've had a camera that can shoot movies for about five years now (7D, now 7DII), but I've never used the function before. Last week I shot a couple of short clips to demonstrate laboratory techniques for students, but I can't find how I can play or edit them. Do I need special software? DPP and Canon's photo-viewing software say they can't open the files, and the help function doesn't seem to cover movies, and the camera's manual doesn't mention editing.

It's possible I've done something wrong, but they play back on the camera OK. Can anyone help?

On my 7D they are stored as mp4 files so anything that will edit those. If you are on a Mac you can use iMovie if on a PC you can use Windows Movie Maker which should already be installed on your computer, if not you can download it from Microsoft. Or just use Google to search for alternatives. VLC will play them fine and that works on Mac or PC.

I know it's a while since the original post but having started to film video on my 7D and after trying to find out about editing, I thought I'd mention that for Mac owners there's excellent tutorials on using iMovie on the Mac Pro video web site (search Applications for iMovie).

Just had a look apparently the latest version of I.movie is £10.99 and runs really badly ,looking into it as thinking of getting a action cam for the holiday
