The heron is positioned well in the frame but the light on the water is making my eyes hurt - it looks like you have sharpened it as well - I would probably try and blur and tone it down a bit so attention is drawn to the heron

Thanks Tom,Stan,Stephen and Dave for taking some time to comment. Stan I have taken your advice re positioning/composition; yes I have sharpened the images a bit as if I post it otherwise there is some softness creeping in. It looks OK on my computer. Dave, I don't know what he is drooling over- perhaps a missed fish. Yes, Stephen it is Conwy (Lapwing) RSPB. If you visit, call out nicely "Simone" & he will come. Spend some time there and you will be rewarded. The Lapwing chicks (inc parents) can be seen on the "island" from the first hide.

First time I have used centre weighted metering on a DSLR, although I have used it a lot during my "film" camera days!

Nat, I think Stan hit the nail on the head, it's a good catch but the background is dominating the subject, which is a shame.

I understand you do need some extra sharpening for display but as I have said before you should never sharpen the background, only your subject

Point taken Stan. Thanks. Will play around the images and probably blur it.

Dave, I have just looked at a bigger picture of the Heron and yes, it has got a small fish in it's beak. Well spotted.
