    Kingfisher - down the hatch

Great to meet up with Colin, whom I haven't seen for around 4 years, at the river this morning and even better to be able to borrow his 200-400 F4 for a couple of hours

Excellent shot Stan. Thoroughly enjoyed your company and you were most welcome to have some fun with the 200-400mm.

Just a thought - your colours look a touch subdued compared to how it was and how mine have turned out. Are you using Adobe RGB as your colour space, or sRGB?

Or, is my monitor up the shoot?

sRGB but this one was quite dark so needed quite a bit of processing to bring it up to scratch which may explain

Thanks for the information Stan. I was a touch confused why ours didn't look the same, but all is now clear.

Re: Kingfisher - down the hatch

Have you processed one of yours from the burst for comparison.

I was shooting Av, 1/2000, f7.1, ISO 800 and the water which was the majority of the frame was looking fine but the KF was quite dark - i probably should have dialled in a touch of exposure compensation which would have reduced the post processing needed.

I have just processed another of the batch ,without any reference to what i did on the first and think perhaps this may be more in line with yours ?

Not too far off now Stan, but mine are still a touch brighter and I haven't added any saturation. I am writing a thread on Manual Exposure at the moment, but it is turning into "War and Peace", but when That is done, I will post one of mine here, for easy comparison.

How about you flying/Diving shots? Were you happy with those?

the first one, shot with your lens - as he leaves the perch is fine but the second frame is not quite there but the grab shots with my 300 just as i was leaving are looking better and i have blended two frames together to show a sequence. Will post when this one has run its course

                              thanks Colin

There is not a great difference in the birds themselves but the background colours are a bit different. Interesting to see that your exif shows 1/100, f7.1, ISO 400, which equates to the same exposure as my shot - 1/2000, f7.1, ISO 800 and as we were standing next to each other our exposures should be similar although you had -1/3 exposure compensation and i had nil. White balence was "daylight" so that also could have made a difference

Looks like the main difference is in the processing
