    Middle spotted woodpecker

Last week I was on a trip to Poland, visiting the area around the Białowieża National Park. The main purpose of the trip was to photograph the Visent or European Bison, but there were lots of interesting birds to photograph as well. One bird that I saw for the very first time was the Middle spotted Woodpecker. It does not exist in Norway where I live and I don't think it exists in UK either. It looks very much like the Great spotted Woodpecker, but it has a bright red hood instead of the red spot in the neck that the Great spotted Woodpecker has.
