Took these photos in the garden, I assume this is a juvenile bird judging from the bad hair day!
As I am a newbie I would be grateful for any comments to help me improve.

They look a little soft on my monitor. Number 3 looks the sharpest. Checking on Flickr I see you had f/16 set. I assume you were hand holding. By opening up to f/5.6 you will increase your shutter speed by a couple of stops, which gives you a better chance of getting the images sharp. Also make sure you have IS switched on. Composition is also a factor. Try to avoid placing the bird in the centre of the frame. Cropping the image in post processing can achieve this.

Thank you Brian, that is very helpful - I appreciate your advice. I should have checked the settings rather than being too eager to take the photos and hope to do better.

Yes great, agree with Brian's comment. Of the three its its No 3 for me, bit more environment inthe
shot. Don't be put off we all started at sometime although mine is more years ago than I care to remember

Nice images and comments from Brian are good way to improve on these. Incidentally not a juv, probably a bit early for young to fledge yet. Also young don't have white faces they are yellowish. Looks like an adult foraging for food for young. Adults can look quite tatty during the breeding season as they work hard to feed their young.
