    Kestrel Update 17-05-2020

    Sorry for longish post.
For the 3rd morning on the trot the weather was overcast.

Arrived and found the female like this, only odd glimpse of a chick for almost 45 minutes
Kestrel 2020-96 by tblake2007, on Flickr

Suddenly she left the nest and the male dropped in
Kestrel 2020-97 by tblake2007, on Flickr

He'd brought back a prey item, a bird.
Kestrel 2020-98 by tblake2007, on Flickr

    Looks like pheasant chick
Kestrel 2020-99 by tblake2007, on Flickr

He seemed to have little idea how to feed the chicks and offered the whole thing to one of the chicks.
Kestrel 2020-100 by tblake2007, on Flickr

Of course the chick isn't yet capable of dealing with a prey item of this size so he dropped it in to the nest. If you look very carefully its possible to see there is 5 chicks.

Always difficult to see how many eggs there are. Think I did post an image that showed 5 but it wasn't easy to pick them out.

Always nice to see them hatch.

If all 5 fledge that's a great thing, largely depends on the adults being able to provide enough food.

antoeknee, you are a star, the male not knowing how to feed the chicks, seems to me that is a male trait in most species.... thanks for the wonderful update.
