    David V Goliath

    This male mallard had just chased off the mother and proceeded to attack and scatter the 12 ducklings in all directions. It only stopped when the duckling just stood still in front of it, but only for a second.
    Then the male went for the duckling.

    Have seen this happen, not quite sure why they do it -- could be he wants to mate!

            Quite common in the animal kingdom. Never seen it with mallards though. Mind you the males are very aggressive. You have to feel for the females in the breeding season.

              Indeed the mating drive in the males is massive. Not unusual for a female to be drown in the mating frenzy.
