    Buzzard

The one that I posted previously in the tree outside the bedroom window. It's now taken to sitting above the bird feeders - it seems fascinated by the squirrels feeding beneath, but unfortunately does not take any action on them.

Great detail on your friendly Buzzard, would they normally take squirrels?

When Buzzards have young to feed they would have a go at a squirrel, but this time of year it's usually road kills and following a plough in a field eating worms, they are basically lazy, but efficient and don't waste a lot of energy chasing prey. Hopeless for falconry, which is why their are so many of their American cousins, Harris Hawks, over here.

Might be up where you are but down here its quite common for buzzards to take squirrels, both in the breeding season and more so during the winter months. I've posted pictures in the past of buzzards with a kill in the garden or the field, its quite a regular happening.. The reason the buzzard in my latest picture was not going in for the kill was I have wires at low level to protect ground feeders from the sparrowhawks. We even had the Tawny Owl have a go at a squirrel a month or so ago, although the squirrel got away. It not uncommon for buzzards to take new born lambs, my neighbours always on about it, and I've seen it happen myself.
