    Cirl Bunting

Cirl Bunting taken yesterday feeding on the golf course greens at Dawlish Warren NNR. Not the best of light at the time, but not a bird that is common.

My bird spotting book says it is confined to your neck of the woods Trev and it nearly went extinct in 1989 so no wonder it is not seen much, It is on the red list apparently. Well spotted and thanks for sharing, its quite probably the only sight I’ll get of it!.

What a coincidence, I just saw this bird in a channel 5 show where Michael Portillo walked around part of the coasts of Devon and Cornwall. An interesting story of how bird populations can be restored. Nice shot too

Many thanks everyone for looking and your comments. It is a bird that is local to Devon and the west country and one that is now beginning to see results from conservation work to encourage the species.
I support one such scheme with donations.
